Welcome to Whitewood & Linen – a story of a stylish renovation

Hello there, welcome and thank you for joining me today!  You have no idea how nervous I am about this whole blogging thing I’ve got going on here!  I am so not technically minded and I can see the disbelief on my friends faces when I tell them what I’m up to.  To paint a quick picture, I am the type of person who can just about work her phone, send texts, navigate the iPad and do what I call the simple things on a PC.  I have never attempted to understand how the back end of a website works and quite frankly never been the slightest bit interested. I’ve never worked in a technical environment and if any of my gadgets do stop working, I turn them off and then back on again and pray a little in between or call for a teenager.

What I can do though is make a space functional and pretty, often on a tight budget and I’m told I can make a home comfortable and welcoming too.

I’ve been known to take a sad looking item of junk and bring it back to life

and I love to use light, colour, paint and fabric well.  I’m at my happiest when I’m routing around an antique or junk shop finding that special piece to make the whole room work and I love to see a charity shop find sitting happily next to a pricier piece on my sideboard! And my heart simply races at an auction when I’m bidding for what was once upon a time a total strangers loved treasure.

I suppose I love a challenge and moving to a tired old bungalow in the countryside, needing lots of building and renovation work and masses of TLC may be the biggest challenge yet!

And I simply cannot wait …to rise to this challenge and to document it all here on my blog, Whitewood and Linen. I’ll show you lots of before and after photos, many furniture up-cycles and I cannot wait to share with you a very special Christmas present and what it means to this blog!  There’ll be redesigning of garden space, probably a little talk of vegetable growing and plenty of paint, fabric, lighting and room planning.  I hope you’ll enjoy reading along and maybe get a little inspired yourself to tackle that project you’ve been meaning to do for a while now. And who knows, if I continue to enjoy this journey as much as I am now, I may even splash out on a new camera; for now though its me, the iPhone camera and a great deal of enthusiasm! So if you’re still reading, grab yourself a coffee and comfy spot and stay a while longer…you’re very welcome!

  1. Oh yes, waiting until they’ve flown the nest is a good idea, now why didn’t I think of that?! What do they say…”one man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure” or something like that? So true x

  2. I’ve always fancied a renovation project ! Maybe when my boys are older and have left home.
I agree with routing through charity shops and unearthing treasure! x
